Hortco Greenhouses was founded in 1985 as a seasonal and holiday plant wholesale operation and in 1988 added a retail Garden Center, in Fruitland Maryland. The next year, the Garden Center was moved to Tasley, Virginia, near its present location.

Together, owners Dreux and Catherine Alvare' have more than forty-five years experience in the horticulture industry. Most of that experience came from serving the needs of residents of the Eastern Shore.

From our 14 acre grower-location in Onley, we produce 60-70 percent of the plant stock offered in our garden center.  Selling direct, from the grower to the customer, means less expensive and healthier plants.

Our four-acre Garden Center is consistently well-stocked with a wide variety of perennials, annuals, shrubs, trees and more, specially chosen for conditions on the Shore.
